Post-screening panel discussion featuring The Irish Times’ environmental writer Paddy Woodworth, Lórcan O’Toole (Project Manager of conservation charity, The Golden Eagle Trust), Michael Davoren (Chairman of the Burren Irish Farmers Association), independent filmmaker Róisín  Loughrey and biology professor Tom Davis

Iconic American environmental pioneer Aldo Leopold believed the most challenging task for human inhabitants of the earth was “to live on a piece of land without spoiling it.”

In this feature documentary, Leopold’s biographer Curt Meine guides us through the life and work of thegreat 20th century environmentalist, connecting some of Leopold’s ideas on what he referred to as “the land ethic” with contemporary agricultural and environmental concerns.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion to consider some of Leopold’s key ideas in an Irish context. The panel, to be chaired by Paddy Woodworth, author of “Our Once and Future Planet: Restoring the World in the Climate Change Century” and contributor to The Irish Times Environment Page, will comprise:

Lorcán O Toole: Irish Golden Eagle Reintroduction project Co-ordinator; Project Manager of Conservation Charity, the Golden Eagle Trust.

Michael Davoren: A Farmer. Working a family farm in the environmentally sensitive region of the Burren in the West of Ireland. Chairman Burren IFA. (Irish Farmers Association) Actively involved in the formation  and working of the Burren Life Programme.

Róisín Loughrey : Independent filmmaker. Director of interactive documentary Through the Green Door – Architecture & Eco-building in the North West of Ireland.

Tom Davis: Biology Professor, Loras College, Dubuque, IA, USA ; volunteer tour guide at Leopold Shack and Legacy Center, Baraboo, Wisconsin; Visiting Professor, Study Abroad, IADT, Dun Laoghaire.
